Stretching
A stretch treatment is a therapeutic technique designed to improve flexibility, relieve muscle tension, and enhance mobility by systematically elongating muscles and connective tissues. It can be performed manually (by a therapist) or through assisted stretching methods, depending on the goals and needs of the individual.
Types of Stretch Treatments:
Static Stretching – Holding a stretch in a fixed position for a prolonged period (usually 15–60 seconds).
Dynamic Stretching – Controlled, movement-based stretches that prepare muscles for activity (common in sports).
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) – A therapist-assisted method involving contraction and relaxation of muscles to improve flexibility.
Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) – Short, targeted stretches (2–5 seconds) repeated multiple times to increase range of motion.
Myofascial Release – Focuses on releasing tightness in the fascia (connective tissue) using sustained pressure or stretching.
Assisted Stretching (e.g., Stretch Therapy, Thai Massage, or Partner Stretching) – A practitioner helps guide and deepen stretches safely.
Benefits of Stretch Treatments:
Relieves muscle stiffness and soreness
Improves joint range of motion
Reduces risk of injury (especially for athletes)
Enhances blood circulation
Helps with posture correction (by releasing tight muscles)
Reduces stress and promotes relaxation
Who Can Benefit?
